Vancouver trip Day 5

On this day we visited Vancouver aquarium where I wanted to go.
This is located in Stanley Park, it's hard for us to get there from bus station because none of us are good at reading map(^^ゞ And paths in park are winding.

Nemo! (Clown fish)

Sea anemone. Looks like many ballet dancers are sucking in black hole, waving their legs! (only me?)
Actually those are beautiful, not horror.

Garden eels! This is the most creatures I want to see the most!
Their movements are very adorable.
At their souvenir shop I looked for garden eel goods, couldn't find.
My necklace is the cutest! (Does somebody recommend this to the aquarium??)

Another great exhibition is jelly fish.
Like most of illustration, I expected they are swimming in umbrella shape but in fact, swimming up side down.
Just seeing them makes us feel cool.

We enjoyed aquarium a lot, then moved to Gastown.
Famous steam clock. (Smaller than expectation)
Every 15mins, it sounds "Westminster's chime".
For me, that's very familiar sound as we used to hear this chime in school every day, every hour.
Only in Japan??

Dinner!
We skipped lunch this day, while having coffee in Gastown, decided this restaurant checking on yelp and very close to that café.
Salmon sampler! This smoked salmon melts in mouth and caramelized salmon is very tasty. Salt and Sweet balance is great.
Seafood pappardelle is also good for seafood lover. It's Frutti di Mare(*^_^*)
Staff kindly explained that pappardelle is pasta when we ordered, okay okay, I know well about pasta.

After dinner, outside was still pretty bright, we walked around a bit.
We had a great time on day 5 too!

Vancouver trip Day 4

The day before we got back very late so we decided to take it easy this day.
I claimed "I don't want to walk!"(^^;

We went to Kitsilano area.
From the place where we stay, just take 1 bus, no need to change.

We had nice brunch! The Oakwood Canadian Bistro
It's a bit far from the center of Kits area, but they are busy and have great egg benedict. (Here they say "benny")

After eating, we did some shopping.
We entered a dried fruit store Ayoub's Dried Fruits & Nuts.
Interior is exotic, like middle east. (though never visited(^^;)
I like dried food, fruits, vegetable, nuts etc.
They also have chocolate stuff. Good for souvenir and snack.

After checking some stores, walked around, we dropped by café. Lucky's Doughnuts
I've heard their donut is different from other just sweet donut.
That reputation is true. It's sweet but inside is very soft, outside is crunchy, good with coffee.
And their mug cup is almost Tiffany blue!

On this day we got back early and had relaxing time with some food and wine.
One of the great things of over 1-week-stay is we don't have to hurry for schedule.
Japanese tend to pack all schedule in short days, after trip, feel tired from finishing to-do-list.

Oh, and we got friend in neighborhood! Cute!(・∀・)

Vancouver trip Day 3

Today we were going to meet my friend since we were in NY, before meeting, visited Granville Island.

We got off bus too early, had to cross bridge, walked a while.
Here is very popular place for both tourist and local people.
There are fresh food market, local artists' stores, brewery, restaurants, and so on.
How do they build cherries like this!
We got fresh pastry and coffee here.

My friend lives near Vancouver,  we got know each other when we were English students in NY.
On this day, he offered to look around Vancouver Biennale .
According to this site, there are many sculptures in city, so called outside museum.
We moved to Sunset beach, found one.
This is named 217.5 Arc x 13.
Each semi circle is 217.5 degree. When we reached here, a boy is playing with his dad.
People can touch, climb, take picture on this.

We walked to next sculpture.
Huuuuuge engagement rings.
Next is close to English bay beach, famous one.
A-maze-ing-laughter. Someone may have seen these laughing guys on guidebook?

After having late lunch, took tandem bike in Stanley park, my friends went home, we were planning to watch fireworks!

We waited for 3 hours, but this view is worth it!
That was amazing! Show lasted 25 mins without break time.
(In Japan, event lasts longer but there are several gaps in between fireworks.)

One matter was after celebration of lights, we didn't know how to get bus(^^;

Vancouver trip Day 2

For both of us, this is the first time to visit Vancouver, so first of all, we went to downtown.

Robson Square and Vancouver art gallery. (This gallery is free on Tue after 5 but they suggest $10 donation for each)

From here, we walked along Robson St all the way to end, entered Stanley Park.
In the park, rose garden is in full bloom.
Felt much cooler than in Japan, maybe like in May??
We see plants are withered because of heat in summer.

We walked along the water, gradually back to downtown.
From park, facing north Vancouver. Very calm shore except geese.

I heard that there are many brewery here, this is the one of restaurants I wanted to go.
Steamworks brewery

Their famous menu is this beer flights.
One was sold out then they gave us one extra sampler.
This view made me excited!(*´艸`)
Each sample is very unique, my favorite is "cucumber ale".
Smells really cucumber but not too much of grass.
Mmm, I want to visit here again someday!

Vancouver trip Day 1

Long time no post!
Since last updated, I had my birthday, worked hard, then trip to Vancouver!

I booked Air Canada rouge because it's direct flight from Osaka to Vancouver and I was going to meet up my boyfriend at YVR airport.
I read some bad reputation about Air Canada rouge so my expectation was quite low then ended up not bad at all. One thing I missed is beer on a plane(^_^;)

At YVR airport. So called "welcome figure" welcomes us.
Here is not huge airport, however it's famous international airport, waited for only 2 hours, easily I could meet my boyfriend.

Our first meal (snack?) is Poutine from "NEW YORK FRIES".
BTW, this is not from NY.
Poutine is Canadian traditional food, originally from Quebec, now, very popular snack.
Orthodox one is French fries with gravy sauce, his choice was butter chicken with curd.
Wow, calory bomb! Tasted good but I felt travel sickness, couldn't eat much.
I guess fries and gravy sauce combination is addictive.

After a rest from arrival our place, not so early any more, we decided to explore our neighbor.
Seems many stores close early, are they morning person??
In winter, gets dark around 4pm, the other hand, in summer, around 8 is still bright.
We found a pub "slowcan".

My first beer in Canada. With citrus flavor, it soothed my throat. (There is backyard, could be chilly)
Speaking of pub, my dish is Fish'n chips.
Very crispy, good with beer!
Casual atmosphere, friendly staff, close to our place, we had relaxing night on the first day.
